Dumyat

Thursday 14 March - 10:00am to 1:00pm
Our next walk will be on Thursday, 14 March starting at 1000hrs and led by Bill Kidd who has sent the following description. Dumyat from Sheriffmuir Road 3.75 miles, 272 metres of ascent, 2-2.5 hours. Start point and car parking: the rough lay-bys on the eastern (rh) side of Sheriffmuir road from Bridge of Allan (NS grid ref 813980). Dumyat will be familiar to many SURSA walkers given its proximity and accessibility. For those new to it, it offers an attractive hill walk of moderate ascent and difficulty over open terrain affording, on a good day, extensive 360-degree views over Stirling, the Forth Valley, the Ochils, the Pentlands and the southern Highlands. The outward section of the walk offers a short diversion to the lower Castle Law, and the return leg from the summit of Dumyat can be effected, if wished, via Lossburn reservoir, thereby creating a circular route rejoining Sheriffmuir Road half a mile or so above the start point. The well-used path is rutted in some places, and some areas can be boggy after rainfall, so walking boots are highly recommended. You might also want to bring a light snack/drink. Please note that Dumyat slopes are used for sheep grazing and with the lambing season in the offing dogs should be kept on the lead.
