Oral history project

Wednesday 22 February 2012

On 21 February at 2 pm in the University Library SURSA held its first Memory Day. About 35 people came, bringing a wonderful range of photographs, printed material, newspaper cuttings and memories.

Karl Magee put up notice-boards covered with archive photographs in the library seminar room, and showed printed and filmic archival material in the archive room. Lots of members made video or audio recordings of memories - others gave us a written memory snapshot, and others gave us their names for future extended audio recordings. And we had a lot of fun!

Particular thanks are due to Karl for his imaginative engagement with the project, and to Fred Phillips for recording the video interviews.

The image here is from a fascinating set of pictures from 40th anniversary exhibition which can be found on Flickr.

There is a page on the oral history project on the university archives pages.

There's a link to it from the university archives homepage.
