Painting Paradise: the Art of the Garden

Friday 30 September - 2:00pm
An exhibition at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. We will meet outside the palace just before 14:00.

"Painting Paradise: The Art of the Garden explores the changing character of the garden in art from the 16th to the early 20th century. Whether a sanctuary, a place for scientific study, a haven for the solitary thinker or a space for pure enjoyment and delight, gardens are where man and nature meet. The exhibition will include works by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt van Rijn and the Sèvres Porcelain Factory, and some of the earliest and rarest surviving depictions of gardens and plants.
The exhibition is complemented by a guided tour that explores the fascinating history of the Palace garden. The tour includes parts of the grounds not normally open to the public and takes in the site of the ancient menagerie, the 17th-century sundial and the Jubilee Border. An expert guide will show you where The Queen's annual Garden Party takes place and where the Royal Company of Archers practise archery, among other highlights."
The exhibition takes about an hour to see and the garden visit about half an hour.
The admission charge is £8.10 per person.  Please let Stephanie know if you would like to go: stephanietytler1@yahoo.co.uk
