Lochan a Gleannain and South Loch Ard Circuit

Wednesday 18 May - 10:30am
Please note change of walk from published list, due to tree-felling restrictions around Loch Chon. This is a pleasant ramble on way-marked forestry roads and tracks with a moderate ascent affording attractive views of Loch Ard and the surrounding hills. 4.25 miles, c 2 hrs. Led by Bill Kidd. Meeting point: Forestry Commission car park at Milton, 1.5 mls west of Aberfoyle

Leaving Aberfoyle by the B 829 Kinlochard/Stronachlachar road, take the signposted left turn into Milton and follow the Loch Ard forest car parking signs – ignore the overflow bays on the LH side of the single track road; the main car park is a short distance further among the trees.  From its start point, the route rises gradually into more open country at Lochan a Ghleannain, one of a number of viewpoints, before doubling back to Milton along the western shore of Loch Ard. Going is mostly firm underfoot but the return lochside path can be muddy in places after rain and boots are recommended. Depending on seasonal conditions, insect (midge) repellent might be a sensible precaution. Aberfoyle has public toilets and a number of catering/refreshment venues.
