Craig Fonvuick circular, Killiecrankie

Wednesday 24 August - 10:30am
This is a moderate hill walk (5 kms/3 miles, 2.5 – 3 hours) led by Bill Kidd through a nature conservation area with a variety of flora and fauna.

Craig Fonvuick lies west of the river Garry at the Pass of Killiecrankie, and offers an interesting hill walk through a nature conservation area with a variety of landscapes. After a fairly level approach on a minor road, the path climbs steadily through birch, beech and larch woods, passing the abandoned hamlet of Corhulichan and rising to open moorland towards the summit (trig point 420 metres: total ascent 250 metres) with – weather permitting! – panoramic views of the central highlands. Parts of the ascent and descent are steep but not strenuous; undergrowth can be wet after rain, and lower sections close to farm tracks can be muddy, so full walking gear, including boots, poles and waterproof trousers are recommended.

Directions: From the A9 north of Pitlochry, take the B8019 signposted Killiecrankie/Kinloch Rannoch; ignore the left turn to Tummel Bridge and continue ahead on the B8079 (Killiecrankie) to the Visitor Centre car park on the left-hand side of the road.

Please let Bill know if you intend to join the walk:
